Poi is the native new zealand word for a ball on a cord which is swung around the body. Poi was used by the Maori natives in female dances and for warrior training. It has a performance effect very similar to juggling, with various patterns and moves. There are many kinds of Poi. Fire poi is very popular with street performers and is possible the most elemental feeling of them all.
